Inland Aggregates is careful to follow all provincial regulations concerning the reclamation of every gravel pit. A few general guidelines/requirements that we follow are:
Development and Reclamation
· Pit mining – Setbacks of pit walls, buffer zones (road allowances and topsoils), dewatering of pits
· Reclamation – Aquifer placement; fill materials, marginal and topsoil replacement; contour of landscape for positive drainage on final grade
Stripping and Reclamation Procedures
· New excavations are flipped into previous pits in sequence

Bonding and Approvals
· Bonding required is set by the Alberta Environment Development Permit
· Bonds are returned upon approval from Alberta Environment – Inspection of land drainage, inspection of topsoil and marginal soil thickness
· Inspections are performed by Alberta Environment Officers
In addition to provincial environmental regulations, Lehigh Inland has implemented a strict Environmental Management System (EMS). The EMS is a company-wide policy that ensures respect for the environment and environmental processes. The policy also dictates that the least damaging operations processes are to be used, with less focus on cost.
Inland Aggregates mines gravel from below the water table, uses groundwater for washing purposes and returns the water to the replaced aquifer. Groundwater fluctuation is consistently monitored through observation wells.
